DESCRIPTION:Anishinaabe Constitutional Development is paving the way to get out of the Federal Indian Act. To help strengthen our jurisdictional pathway. Save the dates for the upcoming Regional Engagement Sessions on Constitutional Development and “Grounding our understanding on UNDRIP – Human Rights\, Treaties and Anishinaabe Legal Traditions: \nThe ANT2T is pleased to share with you that we will be inviting 3 knowledge keepers – 1 male\, 1 female and 1 youth from each member nation to participate in a Two-Day Regional Session on January 26th & 27th in Winnipeg at the Best Western\, Greenwood. We encourage you to speak with your leadership if you are interested in attending. Please note\, ANT2T will be covering only 4 four participants per member nation. \nDay 1 of the Regional Session will focus on “Constitutional Development” – break out discussions and gathering feedback to improve the constitutional tool kit. \nDay 2 (half day session) will cover the “Grounding our Understanding of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)\, Human Rights\, Treaties and Anishinaabe Legal Traditions Project”. – Presentations and Open Dialogue Session. \nPlease Note: The closing date for registration is set for February 19th at 4:00 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted past this date. DESCRIPTION:Anishinaabe Constitutional Development is paving the way to get out of the Federal Indian Act. To help strengthen our jurisdictional pathway. Save the date for the upcoming Virtual Engagement Sessions on Constitutional Development and “Grounding our understanding on UNDRIP – Human Rights\, Treaties and Anishinaabe Legal Traditions: Date set for February 19\, 2024 from 12-1 PM \nWhy is this work being done? The project goals are for ANT2T to ensure and monitor how the federal government supports T2 priorities\, human rights\, Treaties\, and Anishinaabe legal traditions. The project will emphasize the importance of the federal government respecting a Treaty 2 – based approach and implementing the UNDRIP principles and Articles. \nWhat is the federal government doing to implement UNDRIP? \n\nOn June 21\, 2021\, they passed the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDA).\nOn June 21\, 2023 they released the 2023-2028 UNDA Action Plan to meet UNDRIP objectives. It contains over 100 Action Plan Measures affecting First Nations. • The federal government has released three progress reports since the UNDA was passed. The third one was released in June\, 2024.\n\nHow is this work being done? ANT2T is moving forward on four areas: Government Relations: Build a strong relationship between ANT2T Member Nations and the Federal Government to implement UNDRIP according to Treaty 2 rights. Information Gathering: Find out how the Federal Government is aligning Canadian laws with UNDRIP and implementing the UNDA 2023-2028 Action Plan. Awareness: Educate ANT2T Member Nations about UNDRIP\, UNDA\, and the UNDA Action Plan. Collaboration: Promote cooperation between ANT2T Anishinaabeg and Justice Canada to improve communication and create an engagement plan based on the UNDA Action Plan. \nHow can you help? We are requesting Treaty 2 Anishinaabeg to share your feedback\, ideas and solutions on the UNDRIP\, UNDA and Action Plan.
